Description: Sweden's Orochen left nothing but intriguing releases in their relatively brief presence in the post rock and metal world, such as their 2020 EP Thylacine and the 2022 album Anthroposcenic, often getting closer to heavier sounds and generally basing what they offer on an extra melodic framework. The band put an end to their path with the two-song Wastelands EP, presenting a very nice balance of all those characteristics. The EP's title track serves as a peek at the band's grimmer side, with vocalist Christian Bonnesen (ex-LLNN) contributing frustrated vocals, and Moths Behind Pillars of Light is an immense and melodious track that focuses on the gap between nature and humans. According to Orochen's statement: “We feel that this EP is a natural extension from our debut album, both sonically and thematically. It is also an emotional release for us as it is our final offering to the world as a band.
